The Song Spot

Founder Spotlight: Dana Pirzchalski’s Journey in Music & Business

I’m so excited to share that I was recently featured in CanvasRebel, where I had the opportunity to reflect on my journey as a musician, educator, and founder of The Song Spot.

This feature dives into the “why” behind the studio and how my own experiences as both a student and teacher shaped what The Song Spot has become today: a space where musicians don’t just take lessons, but truly grow in confidence, skill, and self-expression.

The Story Behind The Song Spot

The Song Spot wasn’t built from a single lightbulb moment—it came from years of noticing the same challenges over and over again.

As both a student and teacher, I saw how difficult it was for people to:

  • Find quality, trustworthy instruction
  • Stay motivated when they weren’t seeing results
  • Feel confident enough to share their voice

Singing, in particular, is deeply personal. When someone struggles with it, it’s not just frustrating—it can feel vulnerable and discouraging.

That’s why I built The Song Spot around two core pillars:

  • High-quality, personalized instruction
  • A supportive, confidence-building community

Every teacher is carefully selected, and every student is thoughtfully matched so they can feel both challenged and supported. Beyond lessons, we host events like open mic nights, recitals, and songwriting workshops—because confidence isn’t taught, it’s built through experience.

My Journey Into Music (And Why It Matters)

Music has always been a part of my life. I started singing young, taught myself guitar at 13, and began writing songs shortly after.

But I wasn’t always confident.

For a long time, I didn’t see myself as “a singer”—just someone who liked to sing. It wasn’t until I started taking voice lessons seriously in college that everything shifted. For the first time, I experienced what it felt like to actually improve—and that changed everything.

That experience is something I now aim to recreate for every student:

That moment where things click and you realize, “Wait… I can do this.”

From there, I fell in love with vocal pedagogy—the science and art of teaching singing—and went on to earn my master’s degree in the field. My training, combined with real-world teaching experience, shaped how I approach lessons today: blending technical understanding with individualized, human-centered teaching.

Unlearning Negative Self-Talk

One of the most defining parts of my journey wasn’t something I learned—but something I had to unlearn.

Like many people, I had an early experience that made me question whether I was “good enough.” And even though I continued with music, I often held myself back from fully stepping into the spotlight.

Rebuilding that confidence didn’t happen overnight. It came from:

  • Showing up consistently
  • Performing again and again
  • Collecting small moments of proof

Over time, I stopped trying to prove myself to others—and started proving to myself that I belonged.

This is something I see in so many students.

If you’ve ever thought:

  • “I’m not talented enough”
  • “This isn’t really for me”
  • “I could never do that”

You’re not alone. But those beliefs aren’t facts—they’re just stories we’ve practiced.

Building a Studio That Feels Different

When I started The Song Spot, I didn’t just want to create another lesson studio.

I wanted to create a space where:

  • Students feel genuinely supported
  • Teachers are invested and intentional
  • Progress is actually measurable
  • People feel safe enough to try

Reputation, for me, has never been about marketing first—it’s been about care and consistency.

  • Taking the time to personalize each lesson
  • Showing up reliably
  • Supporting students beyond the lesson room
  • Creating an environment people want to come back to

That’s what builds trust. And ultimately, that’s what builds a business.

A Note to Anyone Thinking About Starting

If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s this:

There are probably things in your life you’ve already decided you “can’t” do.

But what if you’re wrong?

Sometimes the most important thing you can do is challenge that belief—and give yourself the chance to find out what’s actually possible.
